The King James Bible is the most printed book in the history of the world. However, it's important to note that any so-called "1611" King James Version you buy today is not actually the original 1611 version. Instead, it is the 1769 Baskerville Birmingham revision, which does not explicitly state this fact. In fact, many of these versions may still have "1611" displayed on the front cover. This can be quite deceiving. Prepare to be shocked! Since 1769, numerous revisions have been made to the spelling and wording of the text, and since 1885, fourteen entire books and extra prefatory features have been removed from most printings.

The 1611 King James Bible was written over four hundred years ago when the English language was different. The original 1611 A.D. text, composed in Early Modern English, reflects a closer connection with its Latin roots. The spelling follows a Jacobean style that was not entirely standardized but could be read phonetically. The original typeface had a Gothic style. While both the typestyle and archaic language may pose some difficulty for contemporary English readers, the King James Version is widely recognized and respected for its beauty, rhythm, and poetic feel.

English spelling differences in John 3:16:

• U = V (Example: loved = loued; gave = gauve)
• The character 'y' with 'e' above it represents the 'thorn' character meaning 'the'
• nn (Son = Sonne)

Other spelling differences:

• V = U (Example: unto = vnto | See John 1:11)
• VV = W (Example: sword = svvord) [The V was referred to as a 'U', which is why we still call the letter W a 'double U']
• I = J (Example: Jesus = Iesus | See John 1:17)
• Long "s" letters resemble "f" letters (Notice the 'Old Testament' type example on the right)
